this was a case where i was arguing with a female and went to jail for domestic violence: after attending anger management classes the case was dismissed/closed.. i havent ever put this on a app but now im starting to worry while looking for a new job recently that i should. I applied for a pistol license recently to get a part time security job and was denied due to that charge. So im now like how the hell that come up on my background check 7yrs later and never when ive applied for jobs. Is there different types of background checks? i mean ive worked for the govt and this never came up, now im applying for the dept of transportation and i definately dont wont to get denied for some BS like that. what should i do america? should i got to the city clerk and try to get this removed? this is confusing and disturbing to me and my career. very frustrated. please help

Depends on the wording of the question. If it says "have you ever been arrested for..." then yes list it and be prepared to explain at an interview. If the question is "have you ever been convicted of.." then no you don't have to list it.

Some states allow the expungement of certain crimes under certain circumstances. In your case it sounds like the courts allowed you to agree to the anger management classes and then dismissed the charges afterward. Go to the courts and ask if you can have the charge expunged. Worth a shot.

Personally, I don't list arrests on employment apps. I've never been convicted of anything aside from a couple of traffic tickets decades ago. Arrests are none of their damn business as far as I'm concerned.

Most apps only ask about convictions anyway so it shouldn't be any big deal.

Assuming that the case was truly dismissed, it shouldn't show up on any conviction record.

My husband was arrested for the same thing in 2003, never went to court no convictions and it is still there. in this state if you were arrested it is on your record convicted or not and all he did was drag me away from a car after I was drinking, not wanting me to drive like an idiot. Try to see if you can get it cleared off your record, that is what we are trying to do now because of jobs

try going on line and see if you can pull up any history on it. a good place to start would be http://www.crimetime.com and look for free searches. Some of the states will show criminal records since this is public information. I would say in your case, that you shouldn't put that down. If it was dismissed, there were no charges.

If the case was dismissed, then you were not convicted of any crime and I don't think that you have to say anything about it, but to be on the safe side go to the clerk of Court and inquire there.
They would be able to help.

First of all, an arrest and indictment is not the same as conviction because we are all recongized as "Innocent until proven guilty in a court of law". Unless you were CONVICTED, you don't have to say anything about it. If you were acquitted of the charges then you don't have to say anything about it.
