I really need to exercise but my day begins before 6am. Waking up before 5 is a little much for me. Can I exercise at night before I go to bed and the exercise still be effective?

ANY exercise is better than no exercise...one of the benefits of working out in the a.m. is that it raises your metabolism for several hours, so you benefit from that while you're doing your daily thing and eating b'fast, etc...you miss that when you workout then go to bed (or become sedentary)...but working out in the evening isn't a bad thing (as long as it doesn't affect how well you sleep).

I generally try to work out 2x a day when I'm trying to lose weight (1 when I'm maintaining)...2x a day is up at about 5am and workout for 45 mins - 1 hr...then after work (around 6pm) for another hour...one workout will be aerobic, the other primarily toning...

...my maintenance workouts are primarily aerobic (some toning sometimes) and tend to be after work workouts...although if I am ambitious enough to get up and workout in the a.m. I prefer that because then my evenings are free to do what I want w/o feeling guilty that I didn't work out...

Do what works best for you...it's great that you're doing it whenever you do it!

Tons of research has asked the question: does time of day matter when it comes to exercise. The findings have been mixed. Some research claims morning time is the best time, others claim evening is the best time. Others suggest the best time to exercise depends on whether your an early bird or a night owl. I reccomend that you exercise at the time of day when you have the most energy and motivation.

No, you shouldn't exercise before you go to bed, because your heartbeat would accelerate very much and you'd have a little problem to get asleep. And in the consequence of this you'll be very tired another day. You should find an hour during a day to exercise.

From the standpoint of losing weight, it doesn't matter when you exercise. Burning Calories is burning calories. However, some people find that exercising right before bed time makes it hard to go to sleep. You could split your workout and do half in the morning and half in the evening.

Absolutely! Exercise at any time is good for you. I personally prefer working out in the morning because it makes me feel really great the rest of the day... but since your day starts so early, I'd say wait until night!

Absolutely! There's no best time to exercise. Many people exercise in the evening. There is not question that exercising at any time is better than not exercising at all.

Absolutely. Personally, I find I respond best to cardio in the morning before my day starts, and weight training in the evening after work. There's a noticeable decrease in strength for me if I try to lift at five in the morning, so I save it for later. Up at five is definitely a bit much at first, but you can actually get used to it pretty quickly.

Depends on if your a morning person, or a night person... when are you most in the mood to do work-outs? Alot of people have different times... if you dont know... try a couple of trials of times zones, and see whats suits you... Or you could always break your work-outs say every 20 mins an hour when your awake, or something like that... BASICALLY... WHAT SUITS YOU!

Does it matter what the answer is? You start work at 6 am and have stated you do not want to get up at 5. So no matter what we tell you , you have already set the mind set of going to the gym in the afternoon.

At any rate, I like to do my morning regime in the gym. It invigorates me for the rest of the day.

Yes you can!! Exercising at night is actually good for you, you get to sleep faster and it gets the tenseness out of your body. Any other time is fine also, a nice jog early in the morning is good too!! good luck.
