A serious mistake was made when religion was given special status in the Constitution. Religion is the perfect con. It is government protected, tax free, and the product they sell never has to be delivered until you reach a place that doesn't exist. Little wonder so many con-men (and women) jump on that manured money wagon.
Not only that, the taxes that are not paid by religion have to be made up by forcing everyone else to pay a higher rate. This, in effect, is the government forcing the tax payer to subsidize religion, which is a serious violation of separation of church and state.

No if any group became a government endorsed belief system, knowing the history of this country it will lead to discrimination against the other groups. The group that is sponsored would not even have to be the majority group - a minority by percentage belief system could be endorsed and the majority could be discriminated against - like apartheid.

The government needs to be above that and work for all the people.

The first amendement protects us. We cannot be killed for going to an establishment of religion. We can freely tell whoever the good news that God can be reconciled with them. And how.

Um... let me think.

" I. Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. "

That's a no-brainer.
