All puppies are hyper, but boxers are well known for this ! Did you not research the breed before getting your pup? In the vast majority of cases, over activity is just unruly behaviour for which there are many things you can do to help.
Some dogs are simply very active and indeed have been bred that way.
Training. Put his energy to good use! This is a must for dogs that simply don't want to stop and don't want to listen. Your dog must understand the rules of the house and when and where they need to be calm. Regular training sessions of 3-4 minutes will help develop your dog's focus on you. Keep session's low keyed and calm, favouring verbal praise rather than physical praise.
Don't spend to much time on one particular exercise before moving onto the next. Practice the 'stay' command regularly between other exercises. The 'stay' command is probably the most import command for your dog to master.
Plenty of exercise. All dogs should get regular daily exercise, but for over active dogs it is more important than ever. Two long walks per day with plenty of games of fetch and find-it. Really focus on expending that energy.
At home, ensure your dog has plenty of chew toys , particularly when left alone at home. There is now a large range of dog activity toys that help develop puzzle solving ability and further simulated brain activity.
Diet. The debate around hyperactivity within children has raged for years and now medical evidence has proved that in many cases this is related to food additives within diets. Although little scientific research has been carried out, many believe that the same can be said for dogs. So avoid artificial preservatives, flavourings, food colouring, and overly high protein and of course sugar.Only natural treats to during training or to keep them occupied.
Remember all pups ARE hyper. Plenty of exercise, ball games ANYTHING that uses his energy will help. He will settle but it may take some time. Puppies are a full time job. Good luck!!

If you figure it out, my rott and I would love to know. He's only 3 months old, and he's larger than most small dogs already but he's so hyper he's knocking things over already. I've packed away everything breakable but still. He plays outside all day so there's really no reason and he has another dog to play with and toys. I think it's age, he'll calm down like the other dog when he gets a little older. Our 3 rd old, is mostly calm but you can get him rowdy when it's time to play. And first thing in the morning he wears himself out by jumping at the privacy fence. I dont get it, but he eventually calms down.

i have three boxers and they all started out hyper. about 5-6 months of age i had them spayed. that seemed to calm them a little. I adopted the last one we have. She is 5 years old. when she first came to us, WOW. nothing like my other two. very high strung. As the weeks went by she new her boundaries and i controlled everything she did. she eventually calmed down and now i have three boxers who know when it gets dark they all go outside one last time and then to bed for the night. wonderful dogs they are!!!
he or she will calm down and you set the boundaries. they learn from you... GOOD LUCK!

Pups go thru this stage. And some never grow out of it. lol But either get another pup for him to play with or u could play with him. Boxers have an amazing amount of energy even after they r grown so u might want to get another pup that has just as much energy as him. Good luck!

Didn't you know that boxers are hyper dogs? There ain't much you can do except tranquilize them and that ain't right. I hope you have a lot of energy to play with that dog. Good luck Hank.

Has he been neutered? Exercise will help, and if you get another puppy, the puppy will do the job for you : )
He'll calm down as he gets older.

hi, uummmm, he's a puppy...he will be hyper for a while.

get him TONS of toys and play with him aLOT!!! also, take him for about 2 walks every day to help him get worn out a little.
plus, it's good for you too!

as long as he has plenty of toys and gets plenty of outside exercise he should be tolerable until he matures and calms a bit.

take care.

Take him jogging or on a long walk. If he pulls put a "Gentle Lead" on him. It helps a lot.
