Awesome Question! Great Observation, too! These people are what the Holy Bible calls the "Stiff Necked". They believe, quite wrongly, that their deeds alone, such as going to church regularly, giving to charity, etc, will get them into heaven.
BOY ARE THEY WRONG!
Hypocrites, at least to these eyes, seem to be the backbone of all organized religion. It's these Holier-Than-Thou freaks who look down their nose at you for not being as good as they. How's that for applying the Golden Rule?
But we know this: God knows who these fakers are, where they live, and all of their sins. He will get the last laugh. I, however, will surely smile at this knowledge.
But remember this: It takes people to make a religion, but if these hypocrites were asked to wander as Jesus did, do you think they would?

Our local radio morning show did a test over a couple of months. They had a large group of people keep a list in their car. Every time they saw a terrible driver on the road, whether he was a type A driver, or weaving, or going too slow, whatever... the participants wrote down whether there was a religious sticker on the car.
(They did this because one of the hosts made a comment about people with Jesus fish on their cars being terrible drivers. He caught hell for this.)
The show did this attempting to prove that this guy was wrong. Even though it was all in fun, the other two hosts were Christians, and didn't agree with him.
After they completed their test, they were surprised to find that there was a HUGE percentage of "Jesus fish" cars that were reported. It was close to like 50% or so. (Keep in mind that most Christians DON'T have a bumper sticker, etc. So for them to have a percentage that big is saying something)
After hearing that show, I've started watching cars, as well. If you do the same, you WILL see... that Jesus fish is like a warning label. They really are the worst drivers on the road. :)
(That is probably due to the fact that many of them are also elderly, I do admit... but still...)

Their excuse (if they can be bothered to give one) is that "Jesus forgave them, so you can, too".
I call BS. In my misadventures on the road, I've learned that the number of religious stickers and symbols on a vehicle is inversely proportional to the ability of the driver to act in a safe and considerate manner on the road.
Maybe it's 'sticker shock'.

They think they can and will be forgiven for everything so therefore they can do whatever they want and just ask forgiveness.
