Minimum score on the ASVAB is 35 with a High School Diploma or a degree. With only a GED, you need to score more, I believe it's 50.
The higher your score, the more jobs you are eligible to be trained in and the more choices you have in choosing a job.

Are you thinking about becoming an officer? If so, you'd need the recommendations of one or more Congressional Reps. or Sens., have some outstanding traits and accomplishments, be near the top of most of your classes, and have an excellent background check for yourself and your closest relatives. In our post 9/11 world, they will require your tell them everything about yourself, which they will confirm.
For grunt service, in general, you will have to pass a background test (so if you have any outstanding warrants ..), pass a drug test, pass your physical (not be color blind ..), pass basic math and reading ( or have a suitable diploma credential), and pass a psych. test. They may also test your interests, aptitudes, personality etc without test score minimums.
The marines will ask you character questions like "How many times have you smoked marijuana?", "What would you do in such and such a situation?", "Who are your role models?" etc.
Not sure about the others.
Good luck.
