If i knew there was a god then i would follow him. I dont follow him because i believe he doesnt exist, or if he does he isn't this father figure the bible makes out he is.

Truthfully, the God of the bibble seems a little bi-polar to me.

That doesn't mean there isn't part of me that would dearly love
to believe a God existed (and an afterlife and I could see my
parents again, etc. etc.) ... but I highly doubt it would be the same
God that slaughtered thousands of Egyptian soldiers crossing
the red sea pursuing the Jews and the one saying that we
should all believe that his Son shall offer us salvation (thousands
of years too late for those soldiers).

I think of the Bible as a wonderful book with spectular stories
to learn by - but not a history of man on this planet. It teaches,
it does not recall.

If God exists, then he has a more complex MO.

Very complicated question.... TOO means also, so Im not sure what youre asking....

IF there was 100% evidence that he existed, then I guess I wouldnt have any choice but to follow him, now would I??? Unfortunately, there is no proof. And dont tell me your Bible is proof. It is only proof that someone learned how to write fairy tales milleniums ago...

And to IdahoMike - after spending too long reading your site, I come to the same conclusion I always have - people find God in moments of weakness, so Im really not surprised by your story. Makes sense to me. Still doesnt prove squat though....

I don't think so. His behavior would seem to me too much like a mean child, pulling the wings off flys, or torturing a dog. I know that the God most believe in is supposed to have some kind of higher purpose which humankind serves, but I have a hard time believing any purpose is worth the kind of suffering he, by inference, has inflicted on lesser beings.

It would be great if god existed. It would be nice to be able to rely entirely on a superior being. But since I don't think there is a god, I find it very dumb to rely on something which does not exist. So, yes. I wish there were a god to believe in. And if there were scientific evidence of his existence, I'd be the first believer.

Good question, I guess everyone needs to believe in something, but I wouldn't recommend believing 100% what Church or at least their interpretation of God and the Bible... something about using Guilt to make you love God is not right.. but other parts are OK..

Sure.

Even though the bible appears to be the story of a mad god that is innately evil, I'd still like to be "just like everyone else". It's not easy being an atheist. To be despised by 75% of American people is not really a lot of fun.

If Christ were to come to my home, I would follow him. If the God of the Old Testament came to my home I would turn my back. Any man who teaches peace and love is worth listening to, regardless of whether or not I think he is the son of God or God himself. Great Question.

If there was REAL PROOF duh just about everybody chooses eternal happiness over eternal torture. People don't want to die, they want to live forever, that's why they follow religion. It's for comfort. If it makes you feel better, why not lie to yourself? Why not ignore logic so you can believe in the fantastical fairy tale of living happily ever after? I don't. For one, I'm not very good at lying to myself. For another, people do stupid things when they live their lives by the Bible's morals and those alone (which are flawed.) I don't have the comfort. Nothing scares me more than death. When ever I think about it my stomach churns and I feel sick. But I'm not going to lie to myself and believe in whatever i FEEL like just to have some comfort... but whatever works for you... i plan on developing technology to improve longevity, and religion would screw up that dream and my life would feel unfulfilled. But that's not your problem so go ahead, do what you feel like, you only live once..........

No. The God of the Bible is a vengeful, hateful, evil diety ... not worthy of my respect or devotion. I'd rather Zeus ... he knew how to throw a good party.
