My house has wood paneling in the basement (think 80's) and I was wondering if anyone knew any good ideas to improve the appearance. I'm not really thrilled about painting it but thought about maybe putting different wood over it that would have a nicer appearance. Like I said, anyone have any other ideas?

Slim and Ecurb, do you have any idea how much costs are compared to sheet rock or just putting up wood over the paneling? Thanks for the advice; I will probably go with one of these ways with the project. I might take the paneling out to reseal the foundation just to give an extra coat of protection from water leaking in. Thanks again

Using 1x8s and 1x6s of knotty pine boards, I did a 24x12 wall for $108. My sisters new wall in her bedroom was about the same size and cost about $20 less to do in sheet rock...after you add all the extras- screws, tape, spackle, and paint. I like the pine wall better though, and I put it up right over the paneling.

depends on how much you want to spend. Nix the paint. Papering might be nice if the panel ling doesn't have grooves in it. In that case you'll have to fill the grooves with Spackle -- a lot of work. If you decide to re panel or put up some time of wood don't bother to take down the existing paneling; just cover it. Good luck!

For an inexpensive new look you can put a wallpaper liner over it and paper it. In another 10 years or so, if you don't like that you can always go back
