I have a puppy (under 10 lbs) I took to the groomer's and paid $20 dollars to wash, flea dip, clean the ears and trim her nails. I was wondering what was appropriate to tip them.

I have a beagle puppy (under 10 lbs) I took to the groomer's and paid $20 dollars to wash, flea dip, clean the ears and trim her nails. There is no trimming involved. I was wondering what was appropriate to tip them.

Groomers love tips. Most groomers are not particularly well paid.

For a pet that needs a coat trim, you might tip about the same percentage that you would tip your hairdresser, or $5.00, whichever is more.

As with any service, a tip let's your groomer know that you appreciate the work that they've done. People who regularly tip also regularly receive extra care, such as: being able to get an appointment at late notice, or having their pet finished before the usual time.

For a pet that doesn't need a coat trim, $2.00 or $3.00 would be plenty (in my part of the country, anyway).

It really depends on the type of dog you have, their temperment, and the type of grooming service you have done. If you have a dog with a labrador type coat that is simply getting a bath and brush, I'd say $5 minimum (which is what we tip when my bloodhound goes in). For a dog that needs any type of trim or coat care, I would start at $5 and move on up depending on the size and cut. If you are having a poodle, spaniel, or any other fancy cut done with all the bells and whistles, I'd do at least $10. You also want to consider your dogs temperment. If you know your dog hates having his nails trimmed and is going to throw a fit and will have to be muzzled, you may want to throw an extra dollar or two in there just for the hassle (and the risk of losing a finger or two!).

I am a hobbyist dog groomer....meaning that I love doing it, but I have a day job...have been grooming for over 10 yrs....only 1/4 of my "friends" give me a tip...It does not bother me, because it is not my sole support...do you tip YOUR hair dresser?(not you in general!!!!).

Any tip is a good tip!...$2 is greatly appreciated!
$5 and your a wonderful client, and they will "love you forever!", but is ultimately up to you, did you like the service? was the puppy happy when they brought her to you? If not, no need to tip (in a restaurant, if I don't get good service, I don't tip).

From all of the groomers in the world, thank you for your question! Maybe it will open the eyes of others to tipping their groomers for a service well done!

My cost is usually $30-$40, depending on what my groomer does, and I usually tip around $10.

I am my dog's groomer. My dogs tip me with a lick in the face! They love the attention more than the bath and haircut!

I always give them $5-$10 tip depending on how I like the grooming, dont think it is necessary to tip the 15%-20% as is customary with humans.

15 percent just like if you go out to eat. They tend to remember tippers. You should tip everyone that does something for you. I tip the guys at the drive through. At least I didn't have to get out of the truck and my dogs didn't have to be by themselves.

I usually tip them like I would tip my hair dresser.
