The biggest health problem is long-term, down the road. It is called osteoporosis. It is a bone deficiency. Bone only develops under weight bearing conditions, so if you are under weight, you are more than likely not developing bone. Plus, when you are under weight, in order for your body to get the energy it needs for metabolism, cell generation, and protein synthesis, it will pull it from your bones, again causing the beginning stages of osteoporosis.

There are other things that can occur....hair loss, muscle loss, skin problems, if female there are ovulation problems, etc.

Underweight doesn't necessarily mean not healthy... some people are born skinny... just like me. They call us "ectomorphic"... however, if you are underweight because of some illness, being so could make you more vulnerable to other sickness, even the simple, common ones, like flu and colds. You are also at risk of more serious illnesses, such as malnutrition, dehydration, anemia and a lot more... If you are underweight, try taking in more fruit juices and eat more veggies, healthy stuff like that. Dont forget to take in your daily dose of multivitamins. Good luck to you.
