download a desktop search program (google or Yahoo Desktop Search ( http://desktop.yahoo.com )), give it a few hours (computer running, preferably not used as the indexing by default only works when the PC is idle) to index all your files (in Y!DS you need to go into options and tell it to index ALL files in all drives; by default it only indexes C: completely )
then type in the name of a file and in a few seconds, you'll see all the matches, dates, sizes & all
PS: don't do this for Windows system files; Windows does (meanwhile) a pretty good job @ cleaning up after itself and usually only keeps onecopy of current files, as well as oen copy of older versions (for roll-back / restore purposes)

You cannot create a duplicate file on the computer. The name of any file includes its location. You may use the same name but they have to be stored in physically different locations.
You may create two folders with different names and store a file with the same name in both folders. Example Folder Me and Folder you. Now the file, Our Good Times, can be stored in both folders. The addresses are: me/our good times and You/Our Good Times. The systems recognizes this as two different files.
If you want to see every occurrence of "Our Good Times',
use the search and search for " * Our Good Times*.*
The * means accept any wording up to that point, after the period means the same thing.

Well... this is very tricky, tough, time consuming issue...
Goto http://www.download.com
Here you download softwares which help you to delete duplicate files...
These softwares will help you in searching duplicate files and delete them. But be sure while deleting that you don't two different files which may have same name.
In your windows, Program files folder etc. you'll have loads and loads of files with duplicate names. So just be sure that you don't delete these files....
Cheers... :)
