I was reinstalling windows when I accidentally deleted my backup files on the external harddrive (ouch!) My hard-to-hack-and-to-guess password was on there. I went through the forgotten password progress and it turns out I can't remember what I put for the secret question, the account being more than a year old. Is there anything I can do to retrieve my password?

That's a handy program Anonymous linked, I'll keep for other uses though because it didn't work for my harddrive or my external harddive, only because it reads whatever I deleted since I reinstalled windows, not before. Thanks though.

Don't even touch that hard drive! There are programs you can use to recover deleted files from disks like that, but you have to use them before you write over the deleted files on the drive! I never needed to do this badly, so I can't recommend a program from experience. This one looks promising, however: http://www.officerecovery.com/freeundelete/

I could not get my Yahoo account back at one point, it having been hacked, because I didn't know the Zip Code I had used to register for the account with. Yahoo Customer Service was not helpful in the least, I got 320472034730 different variety of form email from them. I'd said give it a shot with the secret question (guess?) and if not, give up.

write yahoo customer support they will help you but it takes awhile...you have to keep on them
