This is a sincere question. I am trying to understand this cornerstone of Christian faith.

What did Jesus save our souls from? Why did our souls need to be saved?
And how does Jesus dying save our souls from anything? Who gave us this deal?
Does it only apply to people that were alive during Jesus' time?

What did Jesus save our souls from? Eternal damnation in Hell

Why did our souls need to be saved? Because someone had to pay the price for our sin. God will not be in the presence of sin. He sent his son to be sacrificed for our sins on our cross.

And how does Jesus dying save our souls from anything? He died as a sacrifice for our sin. He is the perfect, sinless sacrifice.

Who gave us this deal? Our Heavenly Father

Does it only apply to people that were alive during Jesus' time? No, it applies to everyone.

Prayer for you... ;)

God the eternal Son became incarnate in Jesus Christ. Through Him all things were created, the character of God is revealed, the salvation of humanity is accomplished, and the world is judged. Forever truly God, He became also truly man, Jesus the Christ. He was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He lived and experienced temptation as a human being, but perfectly exemplified the righteousness and love of God. By His miracles He manifested God's power and was attested as God's promised Messiah. He suffered and died voluntarily on the cross for our sins and in our place, was raised from the dead, and ascended to minister in the heavenly sanctuary in our behalf. He will come again in glory for the final deliverance of His people and the restoration of all things. (John 1:1-3, 14; Col. 1:15-19; John 10:30; 14:9; Rom. 6:23; 2 Cor. 5:17-19; John 5:22; Luke 1:35; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 2:9-18; 1 Cor. 15:3, 4; Heb. 8:1, 2; John 14:1-3.)

All humanity is now involved in a great controversy between Christ and Satan regarding the character of God, His law, and His sovereignty over the universe. This conflict originated in heaven when a created being, endowed with freedom of choice, in self-exaltation became Satan, God's adversary, and led into rebellion a portion of the angels. He introduced the spirit of rebellion into this world when he led Adam and Eve into sin. This human sin resulted in the distortion of the image of God in humanity, the disordering of the created world, and its eventual devastation at the time of the worldwide flood. Observed by the whole creation, this world became the arena of the universal conflict, out of which the God of love will ultimately be vindicated. To assist His people in this controversy, Christ sends the Holy Spirit and the loyal angels to guide, protect, and sustain them in the way of salvation. (Rev. 12:4-9; Isa. 14:12-14; Eze. 28:12-18; Gen. 3; Rom. 1:19-32; 5:12-21; 8:19-22; Gen. 6-8; 2 Peter 3:6; 1 Cor. 4:9; Heb. 1:14.)

Hi, can i just say it looks to me that you are looking for answers to the Christian faith. This is entirely different to Jehovah Witnesses who's bible and scriptures are not the same as Christian teaching, there might be some things that appear to look and sound the same but truth is to be found and i'm glad you are searching. The Lord Jesus Christ said those who seek shall find, knock and the door will open for you. I know this is not answering your question but i don't want to see you deceived...I am praying your eyes and ears will be open to receive the truth...God Bless You...Spirit-Soul and Body....

There is Heaven, there is Hell, and there is God. At the end of the world, those who have been good go to Heaven, those who have been bad go to Hell. Heaven is nice, Hell is not; our souls will be in one or the other for all eternity. Problem: no one is completely good. In the old times, people would make animal sacrifices to God as a way of repentence and a way of turning away God's anger from their sins. This was okay, but the problem lay within human nature. We are intrinsically flawed creatures, we have a propensity for sin ("original sin"). While they were enough for individual misdeeds, the sacrifices weren't good enough to compensate for this intrinsic sinfulness. So there needed to be a perfect sacrifice that could reconcile us to God. Something that would last for all time and work for all people. Something that whenever God remembered that sacrifice, he would relent and be willing to forgive his people. Christ, God's own son and born without sin, offered to be that sacrifice. He chose to die for everyone else's sins. God would remember the sacrifice and be pleased and forgive his people. To be saved (from Hell) you need to accept the sacrifice made on your behalf, and to do this you must follow the teachings of Jesus; that is, love God and love one another.

Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin [is] death; but the gift of God [is] eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

He saved our souls from spiritual death.

our souls need to be saved because the cost of our sin is spiritual death in Hell.

The Jews, Gods chosen people, performed ritural animal sacrifice to satisfy the justice required for their sins. This justice did not give the complete forgivness of sins. God still remembered them.

God promised the Jews a messiah to give them complete forgiveness of sins and eternal life. After most of the Jews rejected and crucified him, God offered salvation to the Gentiles.

Jesus is often referred to as the Lamb of God because he came into the world as the ultimate, perfect sacrifice for the sins of the whole world! Past, present and future!

"The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith,
Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the
world...And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of
God...And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold
the Lamb of God!"
John 1:29, 34, 36,

Its not so much a deal as it is a GIFT! It must be accepted as a gift.

It applies to every generation.

John 10. "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep...As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the
Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep. And other
sheep I have, which are not of this fold:

According to Christian doctrine Jesus died on the cross to save the souls of all of those who follow him from hell... It is believed by them that in everyone's soul lies an inherited "original sin" this is the sin perpetrated by Adam and Eve when they "disobeyed god" by eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil (a fairytale that they take quite literally.)

Apparently the only way to remove this stain is to believe and trust that Jesus is the savior of mankind and that he sacrificed himself (or god sacrificed him) to pay the debt of original sin.

There are flaws in this idea, too many to list without scaring anyone away from reading this post. If anyone wants to hear more contact me.

Keep in mind that Jesus is God in the flesh.
Jesus saved us from the devil.
We can order the devil away from our lives in Jesus' name.
If we believe in Jesus, we can ask God for forgiveness in Jesus' name, and when we go to Heaven we will not have that sin that we asked for forgiveness for, against us. If we except Jesus as the Christ we are saved because we can be forgiven from our sins. The devil want us to sin.

Well I don't think is 100% true, I think he saved us by forgiving what was done to him, and by teaching people what love and forgiveness means. I don't think he wanted, or planned or wanted to suffer so much and die, it was wrong, he knew it, (I don't think he really let them do it, like it says he did) but by forgiving them he taught everyone not to hate ( I've heard that forgiveness means also "the biggest present" in some languages, its just positive energy)

That part about him, voluntarily suffering so much BECAUSE or FOR me, I think, its just said to make people feel guilty and make them do certain things

Don't use this forum to find your answer. It will make you even more confused. Seriously, ifyou want an answer go to a pastor at a Christian church and you will get answers without angry, bitter, and confused people who do not educate themselves before answering.
