No, it does not mean that you have cancer.

There are stages of changes in cell structure as a cell changes from a normal cell to cancer. Dysplasia means that the cells do not have a normal structure and growth pattern. Some dysplastic tissues may eventually change and become cancerous, but all do not.

Two approaches can be taken in this situation. Surgery, or some other technique, to remove the offending tissues or a "watch and wait" approach where the physician re-biopsies the area on a regular basis to see if the cells are progressively becoming more cancer like.

You should discuss the options with your physician and act based on your specific situation. If you are unsure of the options offered by your physician, seek a second opinion from another physician, preferably someone who is a specialist in the disease.

Dysplasia is not cancer, but it can develop into cancer of the cervix. Cervical dysplasia is classified as either mild, moderate, or severe.

Cervical dysplasia has been linked to a sexually transmitted disease caused by a wart virus called human papillomavirus (HPV). It is more common in women who have many sex partners or who began to have intercourse before age 18. For moderate dysplasia, your provider may freeze, burn, or use a laser to destroy the abnormal cells. The abnormal cells can also be cut out using a fine-wire loop attached to an electrosurgical machine. This is called the loop electrosurgical excisional procedure (LEEP). You do not have to stay in the hospital for any of these procedures.

No, it doesn't mean that you have cancer. The lesion you have is a precancerous lesion, meaning that at some point in the future you may develop cancer. One of the major causes is a virus known as HPV. Your OB/Gyn should follow up with you to do a procedure called a colposcopy, where they actually take a biopsy of this area. As long as everything checks out okay, you shouldn't have any problems with your pregnancy.

CIN, dysplasia, is precancerous. Now, you will have to have the sections of dysplasia removed, ask your DR. what is best. But, if you dont have them removed then, you will have more and more chances of dysplasia turning into full blown cervical cancer. Good Luck.

Dysplasia means abnormal changes in the cells. Sometimes it becomes cancer but often it doesn't. Get it checked often.
