It's been said that women look for men with a good job and lots of money. I'm not one of these women myself, though my husband and I live comfortably, but apparently, it is a factor for some women. So how about the flip side? How many men would be interested in a woman who is clever, but has a less-than-glamourous employment (not much above minimum wage)?

I have never heard of any man who thinks about these things (OK, maybe Donald Trump or Prince Charles worries about status, but normal people do not).

I find it interesting that most of the dating books written for men have to explain the concept of "social status" to men so that they can understand women. Most men have never heard that term used in casual conversation, and do not know what it means.

Women are more relationship oriented then men, so women tend to define themselves in terms of their relationship to other people - especially people of importance. Men normally don't think this way.

The only real time that men think about a woman's status is if she is TOO rich or TOO glamorous -- she must be out of my league (I.E.: she can do better than me). No one cares if she makes LESS money or has LESS glamor than him.

-----edit-----------

PS: I assume that by "social status" you mean the prestige and envy that you feel from other people because one has more money than ones neighbors. Most men do not get their self-esteem from trying to make other people feel envious. For most men, money is just a means to an end (fun vacation, good food, fast cars, etc.), not a way of establishing oneself in the social order. Besides, most men are taught that a man must be self-reliant or else he is not a man. In other words, a man feels like he has to be the one making the big bucks (Relying on his wife to pay his way through life often makes many men feel like a little boy out shopping with his mom).

BTW, I'm not trying to insult women or anything, just pointing out that men tend to have a different perspective on some things.

Her social status wouldn't matter to me at all. She could be flipping hamburgers at the drive through, or a power broker on Wall Street. All that matters is how she treats me.

well of course you want to live life comfortably...not scraping at the bottom of the barrel to make ends meet. But in the end, what id probably do is make sure she has aspirations and wants more in a job..and wasnt like a strait F student...and then it would be over, its dumb not to care...but its stupid to care alot about it

as long as she knows the value of money, i dont care, however, she should also be able to carry on an intelligent conversation. unless she has a killer body, in which case, i dont care either way
