Gases get pushed around by the peristaltic movement of the gut and the contents....like when you stretch the neck of a balloon and let some air out, or like when water swirls through the drainpipe of the bathtub. The air mixed with the bathwater makes it "growl.! Same principle with the contents of your gut and the gases in there.
