Everlasting life comes from a committment to Jesus as Savior and Lord. If you do this, it naturally follows that you will apply His words every day.

Not exactly. It just means you are pious and hoping to go to heaven. Actually God prefers people who want to be good without any hope of reward.
It's not likely that you will exist beyond death, so just be good while you exist, and don't be concerned about rewards, awards or prowards.
