No, I'm afraid it would run like crap. No way that would be enough RAM, and I think you wouldn't be able to upgrade everything enough to make XP run well on that computer. You should get another computer. You can get a pretty good Dell desktop for about $300, so go for it! Good luck!

It's possible, but not recommended. The $100 or so you'll pay on a basic Windows upgrade will require you to spend another $100 on upgrading the hard drive (for more space) and the memory to at least 256MB (128MB is the minimum).
At this point, it would be smarter to consider going with a cheap Dell, HP, or Gateway which will come with all new hardware of course, but more importantly, include a licensed copy of Windows XP. Your money would be better spent towards a new system.

I would recommend just saving up for a new computer. I had an old HP Pavilion until 2 weeks ago that was a 98 upgraded to XP and I could barely do anything on it. It did have 128MB of RAM though, so if it ran poorly on my old computer, than it will probably run even worst on yours.
Its not worth killing $100 for an upgrade of Windows on a old computer.

i had win 98 before and friends had xp so i had to go on file sharing programs and get the the xp pro version and look for the file size of 449,523 and i new that was the right one. got it on dvd disk partitioned, formated loaded 98 then when it was installed pop the xp dvd disk in and extracted all the files to a temp folder and wrote down xp serial # (which was the right one) click setup and it took off. then it came to a glitch where it could not read the hardware so i had to restart and go back in to setup screen and then it bypassed it 70min later i had xp
i have 128mb ram and a 10gb hard drive

Yes it is possible but the performance may not be good.
Here are the system requirements for Windows XP Home Edition:
PC with 300 megahertz (MHz) or higher processor clock speed recommended; 233-MHz minimum required;* Intel Pentium/Celeron family, AMD K6/Athlon/Duron family, or compatible processor recommended
• 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM or higher recommended (64 MB minimum supported; may limit performance and some features)
• 1.5 gigabyte (GB) of available hard disk space.*
• Super VGA (800 Ã 600) or higher resolution video adapter and monitor
• CD-ROM or DVD drive
• Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device
Hope this helped.

64MB of RAM is not even close.
XP requires 256MB MIN. to run, it works better on 512MB. and is really more effective with 1GB.
Right off the top of my head I think XP also takes 2GB harddrive space.
The price of a New basic Windows XP computer would be less than the cost of all the upgrades to your old laptop.
And even with the upgrades it will run so slow on an older processor.

You have to increase the RAM. I don't think XP will work with 64 mb.
