Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for every sin you have ever committed or will ever commit, in your life. This is, of course, if you repent of those sins and accept Him as your savior.
The bible says that the "wages of sin is death". Well, everyone dies, so...what does that mean? In Revelation the bible speaks of a "second death"....and that is, the lake of fire, i.e., hell. You ask what does Jesus save us from? The wages of sin....ending up in hell.
Without faith in Christ, you will not escape hell. Before Jesus died on the cross, people were saved by having faith in the true and living God.

God wants us to not sin, not ever. But have you noticed that it's impossible not to? At least a small lie, a little coveting of what someone else has? So God sent His son, Jesus, to die on the cross...to complete his promise...that if we believe in him we will go to Heaven. He didn't say that Jesus dying would make this world sin free, He said that if you just believe in Jesus and commit yourself to God, that you will get through this world and be in Heaven with him. Hell is horrible, it's going to be much worse than anything you can possibly imagine. And if you just turn towards God, you don't have to worry about that. If you fall short ( and we all will ) but keep trying, you will still be rewarded greatly in the end.

Jesus died to save us from the wrath of Almighty God.
God is only good. Sin is those things that are not good. The wages of sin is Death, not the small death we experience in this realm but the big death of your soul forever. Jesus, by being God on Earth, and paying the price of death has bought the souls of as many as believe. If He had not chosen to do this, we would all be lost forever, our souls being thrown into the Pit where all the rest of Evil shall go.

He saved you from your sin. Sure, there's a lot of sin all over the place. We all sin. Think of sin as a virus and Jesus and the vaccine. You'll still have sin in you, but you won't have to worry about it, because you have been given the best gift ever.

His death paid for our sins
Edited* i discussed this with my mom. and she gave me some more insight that i guess you would want to know. sin, it got to the point where God regreated making the human race because of all the sin and teribble acts we were commiting. Jesus was the only pure one, the only person that could come down to earth and sacrifice him self for us. by his blood we were saved you get it ? BECAUSE he sacrificed him self is why we are still alive, because God had, had enough of our sins and the end was near. Jesus died for us and the father let him do so because of their love and mercy, thay wanted to give us another chance.
hope i helped out a bit

I will parallel for you. Jesus died on the cross for what? To save you from what? What is sin? I will give you references for each question and answer.1.http://www.serve.com/Tracts/Whycross1.html The law of the Old Testament was very difficult at the least to follow.http://911god.org/Table_of_Content/Why_did_Jesus_come_to_us_/why_did_jesus_come_to_us_.html This should give you some explanation as to save you from what and why He came. Objectively sin means to injure, genitive sin means to do evil according to the Greek interpretation to sin. You will find that many of the words used in modern day language does not mean the same as in the Greek language. It also means to offend. Jesus offended none, yet took offense from many, did evil to none yet took evil from many, Jesus injured none yet took injury from many. When we go about giving our condemnation to others we have sinned. This is why in the Bible it states that we all have sinned and came short of the Glory of God. Mankind themselves will commit each one of these things. They will not even stop to think what their actions or words may do to another. Thus they commit evil. You can not say that murder is doing good. Mankind themselves say this is OK. So if you can see it from this point of view all mankind is evil, in one form or another.

He died to save us all. if he didn't do it we would all be damned. He didn't say life would be easy although sometimes even i wished it was but he had to make good and bad so that we can decide which way to go or choose its just like raising a child you want your child to be perfect so you teach him good things but then he/she goes to school make new friends then they must choose wheter they want to stay with the directions you gave them or move with the crowd. Thats exactly what Jesus did he gave us all the rules to live by which are written in the Bible, but we have friends and all other distractions that would enable us to not follow his directions or examples, Hence the scripture verse " choose ye this day whom he may serve".

he saved us from the past, present and future sins that we WILL commit because we are humans who make mistakes. it is so that God can look through Jesus and see us all as perfect children, regardless of what we have done or will do. it is an endless effect; his death gives us all grace. he didn't do it to eradicate sin, if he did that, we would all be robots who do His will. instead, accepting Jesus Christ as our savior allows us to keep on living a righteous life, regardless of past mistakes. instead of punishing ourselves over sins we will commit, we can start anew, fresh and pure again, and try our hardest to live the righteous path. it is a struggle, but it is a joyful thing to know that because of Jesus, we are still able to be blessed, even though there is sin.
