I Am A Legal Immigrant In The US And I For The First Time Applied For A Social Security Card At The Social Security Office They Gave Me A Slip That Stated I Would Recieve It In The Mail Withing Two Weeks And I Was Wondering Does Is It Really Take The Full Two Weeks To Recieve The Card Or Does It Usually Come In A Week

It has never taken that long. I lost mine once and it took about 4 days for it to come in the mail... but it is the government so don't get your hopes up. But they will print out proof of your social security number that you can use until the card arrives.

Don't ever rely on the government's representations as to how long something will take. With the Social Security Administration, it can anywhere from 2 to 10 weeks.

The process is much more automated than in the past. The fact that you got a receipt that says two weeks all but guarantees that you will have it by then. Most likely, you'll have it sooner. Our computer system cannot generate the receipt that states two weeks unless the request has been processed.

Oh man....Just pray that you will receive it in the two weeks that they said. It sucks! They always take forever with everything.

I think it also depends on the amount of cards they have to print out.

It depends on how fast they process it.....states like La, ny, florida, philly take 2 wks bc of the demand there.

We are talking about the USA government..it probably will take up to a month..

For the one for my newborn daughter, it took about 2-3 weeks (I don't remember exactly).
