I don't want a duffle bag thing, or a briefcase...I just want a regular backpack that is designed for laptops, and protect it against say...a 4 foot drop or more. Or a book dropping on top of it.

looks like you need to get a hard cover laptop bag!!! look at office depot or staples some place like that!!! it will cost ya~! but your not going to find a Backpack that is made for a 4' drop.. sorry:( but a briefcase would be your best bett!!! they make a lot of nice ones now! and in todays age most people have a few of them! i dont' even think they make a hard cover backpack but good luck!
