Well without any other information it would be nearly impossible to answer that question and have you be satisfied with someone elses choice. You should narrow it down first by choosing things about the dog you want like small or large, quite or very active, good with kids or pets that you might have or doesn't matter, and if you have to have one that is purebreed or not (mixed breeds are suppose to be healthier). You should also consider just looking at an animal shelter or dog rescue and walking and playing with a few dogs there, that will be a much cheaper option than going to a petstore or a breeder where you may end up spending at least $1000 (my cat from the shelter was $7, dog from a rescue $250, and dog from the pet store $1000...of course every place is different). But whatever type you consider I would suggest looking up everything you can about them online or elsewhere just to get an idea of what the dog will be like.

Depends on what you want. There is a breed for almost everyone. Even if you go to the pound and get a mix, you need to know what the mix is so you get a good fit. Do you want a dog you can brush and primp and take places with you? Do you want a dog that will chase balls? Do you want a dog that will always keep playing and keep you laughing? Do you want a dog that sleeps except when you go out to the park? Do you want a dog that will bark if strangers come around? Do you want one that will welcome anyone into your home with a tail wag? Think about what activity level, personality, grooming, etc that you want to deal with. Then look to see what will fit your lifestyle best. When you find the right one for you, you will know. Then decide if you want to go through all the hassles of training a puppy or do you want to find a young adult that is past the teething stage and potty training stage, but that has other things going on. Do you have several that you like and do not mind a mix? The best dog of all is the one that will fit perfectly into your life - and heart!!

It depends largely on the type of dog that would suit your lifestyle. Are you home all day? Do you have time to walk/run an active dog at least 1 or twice a day? Do you have a big yard for them? Do you have children? What type of vehicle do you have (knowing that you will have to transport this dog at times). My parents have Great Pyrenees and the male is over 150 lbs....not your standard lap dog. Try to find a book to help you decide. Please remember, some dogs are not at all good with kids. I recently lost my dog due to old age, she was 13. If I could get another one, I'd get the same. Golden Retriever. They are the most beautiful dogs...inside and out. You cannot go wrong with one.

You should sign onto the AKC web site. It gives you a questionairre to answer on if you life in a house or apartment. How much exercise you can give them. Or go to the library and read one of their books. I also went to some dog shows to see the dogs in person. It's a very personal thing, but you need to get the right kind.

Um, you should've put details about where you live. If you need a:
1. Companion, get a loyal dog such as a German Shepherd. They need a large yard to get adequate exercise.
2. Pet, get a small one. Chihuahuas can live in apartments and don't need much exercise.
3. Watchdog, get a fast and mean dog such as a Doberman pinscher. I'm pretty sure they also need a large yard to get adequate exercise.
German Shepherds are extremely loyal and eager to learn, and some have even been injured or died from saving their owners (from things such as incoming cars or burglars [like in White Fang by Jack London])
Chihuahuas are cute, small dogs who are fit for living in confined spaces such as apartments or small houses. However, they are not much more than a pet- they're not that eager to learn and seem to be sort of selfish.
Doberman pinschers are strong. I don't know much about them, aside from the fact that, yes, they are loyal and seem to be extremely agile. They are dogs you can teach tricks.

Depends on the type of person you are. I personally own a pug and a boston terrior. The Pug takes a lot of patience, but is very sweet and loving, and the Boston Terrior is an all around great dog, she's smart, loving, protective, doesn't bark....But honestly it all depends on your personality and how much time you will spend with the dog

A pug or a small dog......Why?? because if you are a first time dog owner you should ADOPT a dog that is easy to handle (small dogs)rather than a HUGE dog toppling all over you! And if your going for a Pomeranian well I'll tell you something......they can be really yap some times. Try going to www.petfinder.com that's where homeless animals are and they need forever homes. : )

It depends on what type you like...big, little, quiet, hairy, bald...whatever. I like German Shorthaired Pointers. We don't hunt with him, but he loves to run, he only sheds in the spring, he's great around my 5 month old, and he is SUPER smart. I taught him to sit, stay, lay down, shake, speak, crawl and roll over. Each trick took about a day for him to learn. He's so fun.
Labs are also good dogs and so are boxers.
As for small dogs, I like Jack Russle Terriers. My mom has one and she is so smart and fun. She's kind of a "yapper" but I think you can discipline that.

Depends if you have a large place for it to live or a small place. My dad has a small dog called Popychu it is Spanish for Butterfly wings. It is the cutest and smartest little dog i have ever seen its ears look like butterfly wings. As for a big dog i like a hound dog they are gentle and loving dogs.

Adopt a mutt! There are plenty of dogs in shelters all over the country that desperately need good homes, and make spectacular, loving pets. Also, many purebreds have health problems, and are more expensive.
