Yes, I take medication for my bi-polar. Anti-depressants help when you are in the low cycle. There are other medications such as Lithium, Lamictal, Abilify, Zyprexa, and others that will help stabilize your mood.
I am currently on Prozac, Lithium, Seroquel, and Trazadone for my Bipolar. I still get the cycles of feeling up and down, but the medications definitely do help.
It may take a little while for your psychiatrist to find the right combination of medications for your system, but they will find it. Don't quit taking your medications even when you are feeling better, you will be surprised at how quick your mood will swing. I have done this, so it is from experience.

You can indeed take medicine for bipolar disorder, will it work? YES. it's more of a mind over matter solution. it's not something you would like to be diagnosed with but if you think that it was you are then see a doctor and maybe he/she will prescribe you some medication.

Yes I take medicine for bipolar. I am on a combination of three. They are: trilectal 1200mg per day. Abilify 30mg per day and lurica 300mg per day. I have been taking these three for 7 months. This is the best I've felt. I have no side effects either. Good Luck! Hugs! Von!

I took 15 diff. ones and none of them worked I started feeling better after was honest about my condition by letting people know up front that I get irritated easily so stay out of my way when I get pissed. I lost a few friends then but I have a lot more that accept me for me.

Yes - there are a number of medications for the treatment of bi-polar. I have know a couple of people diagnosed with this who were on bi-polar meds. Unfortunately for them, when they were feeling good, they stopped taking their medication. This is not good. Let your doctor prescribe what he thinks is best for you. Give it time to work. If it doesn't work, see if there is something else he can prescribe for you. Good luck.
