It can. I have it plus i have lots of other medical problems as i am in this wheelchair. So i take anti anxiety pills for a lot of the stress i am under. Like take for instance if you do have IBS it could cause you anxiety from worrying about what others may think or if you will have a accident in public. Go to see your doctor and tell him/her you are having anxiety attacks and your doctor should give you something that will help. I hope this helps you. Good luck

Most definitely.......I'm a nurse and I see this quite regularly with ppl suffering from this. This is what's happening......your body is built with a lot of nerve endings. Since ppl that suffer from IBS have heightened anxiety regarding the nerves of their bowel, it's very natural that most of the other nerves are affected. I would suggest trying meditation or a relaxing technique and it's very possible that you will see a change overall, including the severity of your IBS.

Anxiety often causes IBS.
Also if you gotta go and theres no where to let loose you will be very anxious indeed.
Also fear of farting is a very real fear. Especially when that fart may come with a little something extra. Social situations require farts to be let only in private or outdoors with a strong north easterly wind.
IBS is no laughing matter.

IBS is having "spasms" in your large intestine which is called your colon. Because of the spasms, you have cramps in your belly when having a bowel movement. The diarrhea is because the contents of the intestinal tract have moved too quickly through the intestines. Emotional stress, nervous tensions, and overeating (too much at once) and certain types of food can trigger IBS. Eat smaller, more frequent meals. Avoid fatty foods. I have IBS. My doctor prescribed antidepressants which have really helped alot.

I BS is more of an EFFECT of anxiety rather than a cause. IBS prone people have more anxious type personalities.
