Being new to Yahoo Answers I have noticed a lot of the use of the word 'lol' Is this a very shortened version of 'low and behold' - or what?
Please pardon my ignorance in this matter - but if I am to answer questions to the best of my ability, then I really need to know what people are talking about.

lol stands for "laughing out loud" It's a really over-used 1990's internet word abbreviation which people use to convey the fact that they are laughing. Which is very rarely true.

LMAO is an extension of this, meaning "laughing my *** off"

i don't think ur a virgin anymore after u ask ur 1st question. lol means "laugh out loud" and is shorter than saying "hahaha" or somethin. u can answer any question and u have 2 know the shorter ways ppl spell words it's like u have 2 figure them out. that's what i do and if i don't understand the question then i don't answer it.

For ages I used to think this stood for Little Old Lady (like in Chorlton & The Wheelies) so's that everytime someone typed it in-game I always got this mental image of some manky old witchy type woman having a hissy fit.
