So, I'll be a college freshman in 2 weeks, and I know that everyone will be trying to make a good impression, often using a fake personality. How can I make a good impression, without coming off like everybody else? (don't tell me to be myself, actual tips please!)

Ok the best thing to do is sit around and observe. Usually when you sit and observe, you get to know people and understand what makes people laugh or what makes people mad or whatever. Im not saying to be quiet but use some type of conversation starter like "How are you liking the school so far?" or "so where are you from?" and take the convo on from there

Maybe try to be a bit understated, if you can. The mistake many people make is trying too hard to be cool, dressing funky, speaking up when they don't know what they're talking about, and trying to get attention with their behavior. Oddly enough people tend to notice and respect you more if you just go about your business. Maybe act like you have a reason to be in college other than to be sociable.

If you don't want to make a bad impression, then how come you don't want to hear "be yourself"? Is there something about being yourself that you are ashamed of?
Are you going to college for the education or a popularity contest?

Honestly. Be yourself. No cool person likes a big fake. Think of things to start conversations, like bands, favorite sports teams. Seriously. Just be yourself. People will love you more for it.
