the only way that you would have a niece or nephew already is if you have a sister or a brother who got married and had a child or children

My brother is 20 yrs older than I, so by the time I was born he was married and had a child. My nephew is only 6 mos younger than I.

Well sure i believe it. I have an uncle that is 6 months younger than I am. He's my Dad's youngest brother and was a late in life, unexpected surprise for my grandparents.
