I've been very careful with my temporary....only eating on one side, but it's very annoying...

There are a few awesome dentist on here that give awesome answers, keep them coming!

i had to wait for about 2 weeks, because they send the mold of your mouth off to get a porcelin crown made somewhere else and it comes back in a pretty little box. lol

I know at the office where I work the first appointment, where your teeth are prepared for the crowns and impressions are taken, is about 90 minutes long. It depends on the dentist when it comes to the length of the appointment.

How long it takes for your appointment to have the crown(s) inserted varies also, but it is usually around three weeks. When you leave the dentists' office after your crown prep appointment, you will have temporary *crowns* on your teeth instead of those temporary fillings.

Your dentist should also be putting posts into the root canal tooth/teeth in order to increase the stability and strength of the crown that will go over it. Once you have temporary crowns you can worry a little less about what you eat.

However, you will have to be careful until you get your permanent crowns no matter what.

With temporary crowns you have to be careful not to eat anything crunchy or sticky. They are only acrylic (plastic) and could break or come off. If you loose your temporary crown (not filling) or break it call your dentist ASAP, an exposed tooth like that can cause sensitivity, you could break the tooth underneath it, or your teeth can actually shift enough so that your permanent crown(s) won't fit anymore.

You can eat on that side, just be careful of WHAT you eat over there, is all. Also, make sure that you are cleaning the tooth/teeth really well since food is likely to get trapped where your temporary filling is. With your temporary CROWNS you don't want to floss until the night or morning after your crown prep appointment. When you do make sure you DON'T pop the floss back up to pull it out -- pull it out sideways to prevent it from coming off!

Hope that helps!

Two weeks to ten days.Which is good because that gives your tooth and gums time to settle down from the work
