More likely the cat is going to have large chunks of his face nipped off by the rat. Cats need to learn how to kill rodents from their mother. Most domestic cats never learn how to do this but still have an instinct to jump on the rat. That can be a problem.

It depends on the cat. Some cats eat their kill and some don't. I hope he doesn't eat it because rats carry all kinds of diseases. Most of them have parasites like worms and if your cat eats the rat, he'll have worms too.

You will probably have to clean up a lot of rat poop. We had a squirrel get in (unbeknownst to us)when we were remodeling and our cat cornered it in the middle of the night in my sons room. Needless to say the thing crapped up a storm.
