Yes, a cat's urine is naturally very strong. You can try this trick and it works like a charm: when you clean the litter box, put down some baking soda between the box and the plastic liner. This will absorb most, if not all, of the smell. By doing this, you will not have to clean the box as often. But, be on the look out for urine that smells like ammonia. This could possibly mean the cat has diabetes, or other urinary problems.

Generally, cat urine is very strong and has a high ammonia content. Cats love fresh water, and they need it everyday. Regular cat litter is the cheapest and you can sprinkle some baking soda in the litter pan to cut back on the odor. There shouldn't be anything wrong with your cat, but here is something to look for:
If your cat is spayed or neutered, and starts urinating on rugs or other soft materials, they may be in pain, or have a urinary infection and or stones.
My Veterinarian told me that cats are sort of " dumb" and when they have pain, they assume it is not them, but something around them causing it, so they go on something soft, like a rug, thinking it will feel better.
Unspayed or unneutered cats will mark their territory, yes, the females can do it too. Good Luck!

Cat urine is strong, but if this is a cat you have had a while & it is suddenly VERY much stronger, consult a veterinarian soon. It could be many things, from a urinary tract infection (treatable) to kidney failure (unfortunately, not so). Cats are usually pretty healthy, but if they live to a ripe old age, the kidneys are mostly what gets them in the end. They have to eat high protein diets to survive, but this is also hard on their kidneys. This is an unfortunate flaw in the feline design. Hope all turns out well.

I found that if you change the litter box frequently and use a product called Tidy Cats Litter Box Deodorizer that comes in a yellow canister- you don't need much, sprinkle on top of the cleaned litter and mix it in- you won't smell the amonia very much at all. Great stuff. Works extremely well and I have two cats. I don't notice any smell from the litter box when I use this stuff.
Hope this helps and have a great day!!

Cats urine is very strong! This is normal. Probably nothing to worry about, but in doubt take him to the vet.

It's funny that you should ask this because just last month my uncle's wife was commenting on how strong of an odor it is when a cat urinates, so I guess that cats' urine stinks.

Cat urine smells just like amonia (in fact there is quite a bit of amonia in it), so no, your cat is normal. If it has peed on something you can try washing it in really hot water, but more than likely you should just throw it away. If it's the litter box that's smelly, try Arm & Hammer Cat Litter with a scoop of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda (that does the trick at my house).

Is your cat a male? Usually, the males urine is very strong to help him mark his territory. If he is a male, don't worry. I think most cat's urine is strong.
