Numerous questioners in Religion and Spirituality have pointed out sections of both the old testament, new testament which are not practised by many christians.

Jesus explicitly stated that Christians were held to old testament laws (Matthew 5:18-19).

How do can this hypocrisy be justified? How can it be ignored?

Adhere to the word of God or you will burn in hell with the unbelievers...

Jesus said to live by OT rules, and that's why I never wear cotton and wool blends. I don't want to go to hell.

God demands perfection from the Law. We are not saved by obeying the Law because we can't do it perfectly. Rather it shows us we need someone who can obey it perfectly (Christ).

Romans 3:20Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.

Since Christ can and did obey the Law perfectly and suffered on behalf of those who could not (the whole world), we are saved by Christ alone.

Romans 10:4Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes.

The Law shows us our sin and how we need our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:20The law was added so that the trespass might increase. But where sin increased, grace increased all the more, 21so that, just as sin reigned in death, so also grace might reign through righteousness to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Matthew 5:18,19 does speak of the Mosaic Law as to it's purpose (to expose sin in the lives of people). When Jesus states that not one jot or tittle will be left out or whoever teaches others to go against them will escape judgment He's referring to the work of the Law.

What I mean is this; Jesus points out (as does Paul) that the Law is a schoolmaster or mirror. It teaches us God's precepts and His standards of living. God fully knew that no one could live up to His standards so He sent His Son to FULFILL the law in the flesh so we wouldn't have to. Therefore, as Christians we are freed from sins grasp and can freely choice to live righteously because were covered in the sacrificial blood of Jesus who DID fulfill the law for us.

This is a very deep topic, we could go on for hours with this. But I basically stated what I believe that verse to mean. Please feel free to e-mail me for further discussions.

You are taking Matthew 5:18-19 out of context, it's saying that His purpose wasn't to come and disrupt the 10 commandments and the laws of Moses but to fulfill them. He also explicity stated that it's not what "goes into your mouth" (food) that matters but "what comes out of your heart." And since He made this statement before His personal sacrifice, it couldn't be said that burnt sacrifices were needed.

I think they believe that Jesus said it...... but then he died and all that changed........

Now they don't have to obey what he said because he died so that what he said no longer matters.
