They didn't take mine. I still have it along with the picture taken when I was in high school.

It counts as a birth certificate and is returned, unless it looks like the dog ate if.

To do renewal by mail (which is $30 cheaper than doing it in person) requires the passport.

The passport agent who answered above is right: you have to submit the old passport if you renew by mail. But they send it back to you.

In my country they take it back and issue a fresh passport becuase the picture in that passport gets old.

no, but they clip of the top right corner of your old passport. I dont know how its like with other nationalties but this what they did to my old passport.

yes but it is returned to you with your new one unless it is damaged or mutilated (you can still request that the damaged one be returned as well).
