it all depends on the kind of shoe, and how deep your are willing to go to find a soul. are you willing to clean the shoe? are, are you looking for a fair polish just to cover the stains.

Wow great metaphors.
On the silly side, I'll offer some in response.
If it happens to be a "Male" shoe, and one that laces, I'd use the TONGUE to express the notion that the soul doesn't exist.
If it's a female shoe, you might just get rid of the "HEEL"?
The other options, and please ladies do not take this as an offense,,,You might go shoe shopping? You might even just arrange shoes to better suit you?
One more then I'll leave you to ponder.
A "House" is only a place. We invent, insist, create, even sometimes demand, the soul of it being, or becoming, A HOME.
If in any way it doesn't FIT,,,we should, as we do for so many other things,,,FIND another "Comfort Zone"
