Many Christians say that homosexuality is wrong because the Bible condemns it. Then why don’t these same Christians come out against the following activities, which are also condemned in the Bible? Why the selective bias when it comes to scripture? Are lobster-eaters headed for hell?

• allowing the handicapped to attend church - Leviticus 21:16-23
• eating shellfish – Leviticus 11:12
• crossbreeding of livestock - Leviticus 19:19
• disrespectful children - Exodus 21:15,17
• eating pork - Leviticus 11:7
• eating rabbit - Leviticus 11:6
• helping widows under age 70 - 1 Timothy 5:9
• misbehaving oxen - Exodus 21:28
• sex - 1 Corinthians 6:18
• tattoos - Leviticus 19:28
• women disobeying their husbands - 1 Peter 3:1
• women teachers - 1 Timothy 2:12
• women touching a man's penis - Deuteronomy 11-12
• women wearing gold or pearls - 1 Timothy 2:9

That has always been my understanding of the bible. It's so easy to throw stones, but why do it if you live in a glass house. Jesus even said, who among you is without sin to cast the first stone. Well, I don't throw stone because I am a sinner and a christian. Those Christians are hypocrites. I'm sorry they have made you feel unwelcome. I have been with these kind of Christians and they make me mad, too. Believe in what you believe but know that there is a higher power out there and many people are just ignorant. And forgive them just as Jesus and Ghandi, as well as Martin Luther king, as well as Buddha and Siddhartha. Forgive and realize these who complain and criticize you are naive and ignorant. Be more spiritual than them. Because there is a higher power who will make your life better if you are more in tune with Him.

When Jesus came, he (in addition to other things) made it known that some of the old Jewish law was out of date and, simply put, unimportant. A good example of this is the reverence for the sabbath day. In the old Jewish traditional laws, it was both a sin and a crime to do ANYTHING on the sabbath day. It was on the sabbath day that Jesus did many of his miracles and great works. This ,among other reasons, was something that made the Pharisaical leadership angry. Jesus did the same thing with many (if not all) of the issues you have listed above. Read though Luke and Matthew and you'll discover in the parables told by Jesus more answers than I have provided here. Even if you don't believe in Jesus, the work He did at the cross, or in the bible, you can still recognize in context that Jesus did make mention of most Jewish traditional law in the regard of its importance.

As a Christian myself I have no right to point a finger at anyone because I have sinned myself, only God has the right to judge anyone for their sins. Unfortunately there are a lot of Christians out there that don't feel the same way as I do. But keep in mind we are not perfect so you will find us being imperfect at times, some may be able to preach about what is wrong but can't always follow the rules themselves.

uhmm... I really hate to break it up to ya but some people just use the Bible as an excuse to judge others... still, not all Christians reject homosexuals... really, you should stop worrying about what some of them think, live your life right and don't lose your faith because of a few toughies... I believe God knows each and all of us, and no matter what he loves us.

I'm not gay so I really can't tell you how it feels to be judged for it, but I've seen it... so please ignore the bad and keep the good..

Peace

Where in the Bible does it even mention homosexuality?

The Bible says "thou shalt not kill". Yet the death penalty remains. Oh I know, they'll come back with "an eye for an eye".

The thing is, they can use any quote they like to try to prove their point and totally ignore others. Actually, they manipulate the Book for their own purposes.

Although your paraphrasing is, on occassion, quite inaccurate, I agree with your principles of this question. And you left out a big one, divorce.

Yes. Those who practice these things and condemn homosexuals are hypocrites. They, among others, will be called "the least in the kingdom of heaven."

In complete contradiction to Kyle, above.

If this is such a great issue to you maybe you should spearhead the selective bias club.

Complaining about a "group" is hardly a question.
I think you are being selective on the interpretation.

God Bless.

You're quick to pick out these things, but are you smrt enough to read and find out which ones have been outlawed by the Old Testament? Obviously not. May God help you in your future biblical studies.

That what you call a hypocrite. Just take a gander at the Religious Right's track record.

It's called selecting from their preachers and christian leaders. Not many Christian followers have read the Bible, but have read only small parts or parts that preachers and christian leaders have told them.
