Ive been smoking for about 2 years. I smoke about a pack a day and both me and my boyfriend are trying to quit. Im going through a bought of depression also so its really bad for me right now. Is there anyone who has any ideas about how to stop. Does the patch or anything like that help at all?

Good for you. There are new prescription drugs out that make quitting much easier. If you can't see a doctor, the patch is the next best thing. Just make sure you have lots of support around you. Quitting together is a lovely thing... you both can support the other.

Bring the number of cigarettes you smoke per day down gradually, like try smoking two less per day. Add up the cost of each pack (or carton of you get those) per month and then you can see how much money was wasted on a bad habit, money that could be spent on much better things. My dad used to patch and I think the gum too, and he had smoked for years, so definitely get those.

There is actually a mild anti-depressant some people take to aid in quitting smoking. You can ask your DR about it.

How I quit, was very gradually.

I started by cutting back,
began with not smoking in my car for week, then not in certain rooms of my house for a week, then not in my house at all for a week.
I progressed to limiting myself to only smoking 4 amount of cigarettes per day... one after Breakfast lunch and dinner, and one before bed,
the slowly eliminated one a week. It took me about 6 weeks to totally quit... but cutting back helped the cravings and once they were gone I really didn't miss them much.

quitting is definitely a hard thing to do! i have to give you credit for trying to quit! it's a good thing to have some sort of support system (in your case your boyfriend) to be right there & who is going through what you are. first throw away (break them first) every cigarette you have. if you break them you can't pull them out of the trash can & light them! you can start to chew gum (from what i have heard it helps a little). if you can resist the urge to smoke for three days then you can quit for the rest of your life. they call it the three day hump! just try & not think about it, the more you eliminate smoking as a part of your life, the easier it will be for you to quit... good luck!

First you really have to want to stop.Then decrease how many cigs you smoke by 2 a day.yes the patch does help.Find things like chewing gum sucker's,or brushing your teeth when you want to smoke.Write out when you like to smoke like after meals etc.. and do something with your hands then like do the dishes or get right up form the table after eating .Good luck,you can do it!

1) Do sport ,
2) think about other thing ,
3) Use weather ,a ND walking relax with your best Friend
4) Think about your further , that your work ( guit smoking) is the best work that i do in my life.

just quit the first week will drive you nuts but chew gum patches are expensive i did it that way stayed quit for a yr then something came up and i started again and havent been able to quit since then

Stop buying cigs. I have heard that the patch works but you can not cheat on it. When using the patch you can't smoke a cig it can seriously hurt you.

I smoked for 23 years and taking Zyban is what made the difference. Call your doctor.
