My hair is straight, but it's really thick and dry. Can anyone tell me best shampoos, conditioners, etc.?

For Pete's sake, it's not pubic hair. Jesus!

With dry hair, you shouldn't wash it every day. That dries it out more. Wash it every other day, or every third day. Use a conditioner meant for dry hair. Once a week, use a hot oil treatment (there aren't much difference with what's available, so try a few). Get your hair thinned, and get a style that works for your hair type, which would be no longer than shoulder length. I could give you a list of shampoos, but they're all mostly the same...just soap with different fragrance (checked with Consumer Reports and that's what they found). Shampoo is meant to clean dirt & oil from your hair. That's it. The ones that claim to build your hair with protein and other stuff are just giving you a line, and making you pay extra for...soap. Conditioner adds manageability and adds oil back to your hair, making it lay down and not be full of static. Here's another thing... always wear a hat when outside, even in the winter. The sun dries out hair even more. Eat a balanced diet, because it's what you eat that can help build up your hair, not the additives in the shampoo. Don't use lots of mousse's and hair spray...they contain alcohol, which dries out hair. If your hair gets particularly flyaway, put a little hair conditioner in your hands and rub it throughout your hair & comb it in. You don't have to rinse it out. Rubbing your head (don't laugh) with a dryer sheet also gets the static out of hair. And don't blow dry your hair anymore. It really dries hair out. Braiding thick hair actually makes it bush out more, so keep your styles simple. <*)))><

I'm not sure if Frizz is your problem, but whether it is or not,l Frizz-Ease by John Frieda has a great line for unruly hair. The anti-frizz serum is great to put on right out of the shower before you do anything, even towel dry it. Just a couple of pumps then squeeze excess water out of your hair, and either let you hair dry naturally, or to get it super straight by all means blow dry. After finish off with Frizz-Ease Secret Weapon.

Good Luck!

I am a cosmotology student and my step mom is a cosmotologist.... I have the same problem as you...

I HIGHLY suggest Kenra or ISO...You can get those at sallys beauty supply, Davidsons beauty supply, or your hairdresser....

I also HIGHLY reccommend John Freida's Straightening serum, its in a small little pump type bottle, get the little purple bottle, you can get this at Wal-Mart..... I know its straightening balm but it makes your hair super soft & smooth! Put a quarter amnt. in your palm, rub your palms together and work through DAMP hair DO NOT PUT IT ON THE ROOTS IT WILL MAKE THEM LOOK GREASY!! brush or comb it through, then blowdry for about 5-10 minutes (brush while your drying it) TA-DA! Beautiful shiny smooth hair!

Use herbal essences and use more conditioner than you normally use and leave it in as long as possible before rinsing. Do not blow dry!!! Just after shampooing they say to use mayonnaise for extra conditioning, I've never tried this but I don't have dry hair.

If your hair is dry, you'd want to start deep conditioning once a week. Try something from Paul Mitchelle.. hes good. :) And perhaps use a moisturizing shampoo.

the best shampoos and conditioners are at your salons, alot of the good salons are only allowed to put 5% water in their products , just ask them, its a little more expensive but sooo worth the money and you dont have to use as much of it because there is less water in the products

Use a good combination shampoo/conditioner and if you need extra conditioning, use a brill cream or other substiture sparesly until you get the desired effect.
