Tanya is typically a female name. Defined:

The female name of Tanya contributes sensitive, creative, and idealistic qualities to your nature that could be expressed in a variety of literary or artistic fields. You desire harmony and refinement in your environment and in all your personal associations. Although mentally quick and intuitive in recognizing the thoughts and feelings of others, you experience a lack of fluency in verbal expression in responding.

Used as a male name, Tanya creates an idealistic, sensitive nature and a desire for culture and the refinements of life. You would work best in a relaxed environment at tasks involving writing, mathematical, or analytical skills that require concentration. You appear calm to others, but at times you suffer inwardly with nervous tension.

So, you can see, the feminine and masculine is considerably different. You also have to realize that if a guy has a name that is too feminine, his life is going to be more difficult than it has to be because children (people) are cruel by nature.

Yes, In spanish that name is most written: Tania, but you could use Tanya too. Both have the same pronunciation. I'm form Costa Rica (Central America) so I speak spanish. I have just met one girl with that name, but is a nice name, not common, but nice.
