They are so cheap nowadays ...... and specs rise all the time ....... I got mine brand new on eBay and it has been a beaut! To give you a definitive answer, I would need to know what you will use it for, your budget, what you expect from it ...... ease of use, size, memory ....... whether you want a docking station with it ...... do you want total high definiton and/or macro shots?
If in doubt .... Argos it!

Are you totally sure that it is really dead? As digital cameras are not cheap, if I were you I would check with a camera shop first. I'm sure they would be willing to answer your questions without charge. Of course, if they really need to inspect the camera, there might possibly be a charge. It would still be less expensive than just going out to get a new one, which would be the equivalent of "spending a dollar to save a dime".

I tried NIKON coolpix, but speed too slow in anything other than bright sunlight.
My Kodak does exactly what it says on the box. It even takes videos with sound (brill - with my sony camcorder any group of people becomes stilted because of the overbearing size, but with the kodak they think they are just being photo'd so are less self aware.
MOST IMPORTANT : Go to the dealer and try different models - do they take the memory cards that you already have (etc), You might pay £20/$40 more than on the Web but the personal service is better.

Depends upon affordable I guess.
I have had my Sony PSC-12 for about 3 years now. Looks brand new, takes great pictures, battery lasts for ever. I take movies, flash pictures, reviewing etc on a regular basis, only need to charge about every 3 weeks.
You can get a similar spec for 200-300 now, 6Mega-Pixel and carl-zeiss lens.

You can get good cameras fairly cheap these days. Look for at least 3.3 megapixle, 5 is much better. the cost (on sale) should be around $150.00 for the better ones. If that is too much, check out ebay for used ones.

Canon A610 orA620, or Nikon 4600 or 5600 are inexpensive but great options. Stay away from Kodak, HP, or any brand that does not come from a real camera company.
