It depends on what you want and need.
If you don't spend much time at home but want either a cat or dog:
cat (they can entertain themselves and you)
If you want someone to workout with you, do everything with you and you have the time to take care of them:
dog (good companion but need work)
I personally have a cat because I work all day and I can't spend the time to take care of a dog.

Dogs to my mind offer the most companionship and walking them is simply great. Cats are fine but can be aloof. It depends on the sort of chemistry that you want from a pet. I have a German Shepherd and over the years she has been a great friend but also damn hard work ..... a cat would have been much easier ( I have had four in the past ) but nowehere near as rewarding!

cats no probs! who has ever been mauled 2 death by a pussycat!
If some wiseguy says tigers or some other wildcat I presume you mean domesticated cats or dogs and what about wild dogs!
Anyone who thinks cats are creepy cant distinguish between fairytales and reality
I actually like all animals its usually the owners that are the problem if they dont teach dogs to behave properly.

I am a dog lover and a cat hater so this is an easy one for me. Dogs are cute and loyal. Cats are creepy and standoffish.

Speaking as a guy who has 5 cats,2 dogs............
I would say only this.......
Dogs will love you no matter what as long as you show them love!!!
Cats will love you if they feel like it......or when they want something.......
They are two completely different kinds of animals which take different kinds of upbringing.........
Dogs will take up as much of your time as you can give them....
Cats will take up as much of your time,as they feel they deserve and feel you should give them.......
The GF and I would not trade any of them for anything!
