I thought I would stock up on onions, so I bought a whole bag of them. I don't have the directions on how to freeze them for future use. I would really appreciate some help with this soon. Thanks.

It's called flash freezing. slice or dice your onions and then take a cookie sheet and cover it with waxed paper, then spread out the diced or sliced onions on the sheet so that they are evenly in one layer on it, freeze for about an hour and THEN place in a freezer bag, whatever size you need. Have fun!

You really shouldn't freeze them. To store them, use the legs of and old pair of panty hose. Slide the first onion all the way to the toe of the hose and tie a knot. Put the next one, tie a knot, etc. The knots should be far enough apart so that the onions do not touch one another. Store hanging up in a cool dry place.

Bad home economics: Onions are never that expensive. To prepare and keep them in the freezer until used will work out more expensive than if you bought them as you need them. If you have an outdoor shed that is cool, hang them in an onion sack or something similar and use them from there. As for freezing, most vegetables should be blanched: i.e., peeled, sliced then dropped into a pot of boiling water for about 25 seconds. Taken out and dropped into a sink of cold water. Allow to cool, then dry and bag in quantities that are usable for one meal................... A lot of trouble and not really worth it.........

actually, i don't really like freezing onions because i think they tend to lose their potency, but, that's just my opinion.

if you really need to freeze them, just chop them or slice them, and make sure you seal them up tight. you don't have to blanch them or pre-cook them.
