If you get them on with the wires and brackets, it will really hurt. If its just the brackets and they put the wires on later, then it will only feel really strange. It takes about an hour for them to glue every single bracket on. When they do that, it doesn't hurt but it's a bit uncomfortable, having to sit there for so long without closing your mouth.
After you get them, there's lots of foods you can't eat such as corn, gum, really sweet stuff, hard/sticky/chewy candy, etc but they will give you a list. Be sure you brush your teeth/floss/rinse really really well every night to keep them clean--even if you just don't feel like it. Trust me, it will be worth it.
Sometimes they may have you wear rubber bands and some places require headgear, but they will tell you specifically what to do.
After they remove the braces (about 2 years, depending on your plan), you will have to wear a retainer for the required amount of time.
True, getting them tightened will hurt a bit but just take some painkillers and it will be over within a couple of days. Eat soft foods and it will be okay. It's definitely worth it!
Good Luck and Hope this helped!

Yeah, they hurt metal braces hurt for about the first 3 days because you have to get use to them. They will give you wax to put on them so they wont irritate your top and bottom lip. You go back in every couple of months so they can tighten them up. Then you will hurt again. Make sure that you follow the doctors instructions about the things that you cannot eat because if you break them they will have to do it over again.
It depends on how bad your teeth is for the time length.
You should of asked for those other braces but you cant see them they are more expensive but they don't hurt.

they do not hurt in the process of getting them put on but afterward and after tightenings they hurt. It takes anywhere from 30 min to 2 hours mine took 2 hours because I have them on every tooth top and bottom. When you get them off you will have to wear a retainer most likely. I do not know if you need mroe information ask your dentist or orthodontist and read other answers because they are better than mine.

That depends entirely upon how much straightening you need.
The times (twice) I had to wear *the metal* I had no noticeable *discomfort* because each time had to pull the same direction.
%My second time was done with the type that cemented onto the front surface of my teeth. - This material was a clear plastic which no one could even see!
Your Orthodontist should have the skills to attatch this well within one visit (depending upon how busy they are when you see them.)
That technology nowadays has so evolved that (again depending upon your severity) you might not even need to wear a retainer (commonly 6 weeks) afterwards.
BEST wishes and I bet you will have a Million-dollar smile! (not implying you will spend that much to get it.) :-)

Listen when you first get your braces put on im sure you'll be pretty scared, but listen only for the first couple days it will hurt, then it will feel kind of funny, only because your mouth isn't used to them yet, then eventually you'll be like me, except for how long i've had mine on but i've had mine on for 3 years now, sence 4th grade, and somtimes, I don't even realize that I have braces, and either des any body elsen around.

It took 20 minutes or more for them to get mine on, and usually when you get them off you have to wear a retainer or two for a while. Do EVERYTHING they tell you to. I didn't, and my lower teeth got crooked again.
