I just began seeing a guy when his ex came back into the picture and basically screwed with his mind.(long long story). She's def. gone for good now but I know that at least for a short time he won't be ready to move into a new relationship with all these old pains being drug back up again..
So my question.
How can I be his friend, stay in his life without losing the chance to be more when he's feeling romantically confident again?
He's been talking with me about his upsets lately, but I don't want us to get stuck in a friendship only...I at least want the option open for us. I don't want him to think that i've lost romantic interest him either, but know that this isn't the time to be hitting on him.
Anyone?

What you want is not an easy answer at all. You can be his shoulder and listen to his pain and share his sorrow, if he was interested in you before, he still is. You being there for him right now is the one thing he needs most, just be there, and let yourself start to love him, he is there with you and talking to you isn't he? Hes confiding in you isn't he? He has feelings for you, don't rush things or panic, he is there and he is still interested in you.

As I once heard in a movie that I'm way too embarrassed to name... :]

Love is friendship on fire.

Being his friend is the best way to see if there is a possibility for something more. Getting to know him as a friend makes the situation more comfortable and puts less pressure on the relationship as a whole. He won't feel like you're hitting on him but if you stay in the picture, he'll remember you as the one that was always there for him when he needed someone. You want him to associate you with someone who cares about him as more than some date. Friendship will make your connection solid.

Flirt a little now and then. In spite of what they would lead us to believe to the contrary, men usually pick up our little signals and don't miss the fact that we're flirting with them. Be a supportive friend, but don't get stuck letting him dump everything in his life on you for a hypothetical chance at a relationship. If he's having such a hard time of things, hugs are always sweet and helpful ways to show support and hopefully make his heart start skipping in the meantime!

If you're the guy's best friend he isn't gonna be not open to the idea of being with you. My girl was my best friend for years before we got together and we're really happy

Flirt with him to keep his spirits up. Also you might give him a shoulder rub or foot rub with mashed avacado that always feels good.

If you really have feelings for him, you'll find a way. Let it just happen. He will get the idea.
