If you bought your gown at a full service bridal salon, they should offer or knows who offers steaming. I take it that may not be the case. Go ahead and have the alterations done first, then ask the seamstress if she has a resource for steaming. If not, most bridal salons offer gown steaming for around 50.00. If that's too steep, go to Target. They sell a pretty good hand steamer for around 40.00. It's a bit labor intensive, but worth it if you're trying to save a buck. It also allows you to have the train touched up before you walk down the aisle.

Your dress shop you purchased the gown from should already have that included in the price. Your dress (depending on fabric) will more than likely have to be steamed, not pressed. It should be done at the shop no more than a week before your wedding. Its also good to have a steamer handy on the big day for any unexpected wrinkles. Call your dress shop and ask. That is a service that should be included. If you are having your gown preserved, ask the shop if they do that as well. If not a reputable dry cleaners can. It can be a little pricey but well worth it if you want it as a keepsake. That can be done the day after your wedding. Arrange for someone to pick it up or if you are leaving the reception site to go directly to your honeymoon change before you leave (this is an older custom) and leave the dress with your MOH or mom to take care of the following day.

Press it after you get the bustle done. Don't have it bustled when it's pressed. Call around and find a dry cleaners who can press it, some don't have the machines for it. I think mine was done with a steamer, by hand. It was almost $50.
I got married Saturday, dropped off the dress Wed and picked it up Friday.

You either want it hand pressed, or better yet, steamed. Whoever is doing the bustle for you should be able to handle this for you as well. Just remember, once it's steamed, you'll have to keep it hanging and fluffed up until you put it on, so no more than a week prior to the wedding, the closer to the wedding this can be done, the better. You may also want to invest in a steamer for this purpose, that way if it gets wrinkled between picking it up and the wedding, you can steam it out yourself, or have one of your bridesmaids do it. Congrats and good luck!

You'll want to have your gown pressed as close to the wedding date as possible. Just because it can be expensive to have the dress hand steamed or pressed or whatever you choose - and you never know what wil happen between then and the ceremony! Also you should never pay to press anything before alterations, because generally things just get at least a little wrinkled when they are altered.

I acctually am just getting this stuff done for my wedding (august 19). My dress is finally finished. I also had a bussel done, but you really should make an appointment to have it looked at. Most likely, it will take a week for the bussel (remember its wedding season, and places are busy, so do it really soon). The boutique I had my dress done at also presses dresses. So, they just kept my dress, and it will be pressed 4 days before the wedding, and then I will pick it up the day before the wedding.
good luck!!!

hi there ms. bride to be. I would hope that you would have your gown pressed and back in your possession at least 2 to 3 days before your blessed day. Also, make sure that after your wedding and honeymoon (if one applies), you get your gown cleaned, pressed and boxed up for storage. You can always open your precious package at a later date to remember that special day.... Best of Luck to you and your new best friend.

I say after the alteration. I say maybe you should take it to a special place if you don't mind spending the money. IF SO, the cleaners is fine

Check with the place your purchased your gown - they are supposed to handle the steaming/pressing of your gown.
