Start a to do list and keep it with you always. Maybe on a post it. If you run out of sticky on the post it, use tape but keep it with you as a reminder. Also, write what you have to do or what you are putting off on your calendar...in red. if you dont do it the day you are supposed to do it. Move it to the next day, but make sure to move it so it is always there as a reminder. If it is something real important, put a post it on the door so you can see it on your way out. You can also send yourself a voice mail and email to remind yourself. Also add to your pda. The main thing is to be reminded about your task/to do etc.

uh can you hold on a min I promise I'll get right back to you....
hmmm... I only put off the low-priority things I have found myself in a similar situation in school and I had remove myself from my distractions see home for me was sometimes the worst place to try and do your work cause you are surrounded by your favorite things and they all served to be distractions so I had to take my self to the ( this was in Colege) so I had to take myself to a place that would help me be in the right state of mind the University Library I would just get a lot of Food find a study room and stay in it til I was done I'd come out occasionally to walk around a little but I pretty much made myself stay in there!!! It worked. its how I became accostomed to completing my work so I recommend that!!! I also recommend you doing your English paper on paper and type it up on the computer when you get home I only say that cause the computer can be a distraction too and once its on paper you can afford a momentary diversion as a reward if you feel you are working hard at the computer So take your work, some food (to sneak in) an MP3 player if you got it and you to a College Library (too many crazies sometimes at the local library) (and no you don't have to be a student of the college to use it.) and get to work GOOD LUCK!!!!! from one procrastinator to another Byahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I went through the same thing, and the only way to fix it is to stop procrastinating. When you know you need to do something and are ready to push it aside DON"T you know what the outcome is do the opposite of what you have been doing. You will experience a different and more positive outcome. You don't want to do what you have to do because it is not fun, it isn't as entertaining as everything else. But it is a lot worse at the last minute and when it has gotten carried away than it is if you tackle it immediately.
Good Luck and don't give up, if you fail just keep trying it takes practice.

Its a big problem I used to have.
What I started doing it asking a friend or parent to help me stay away from distractions, cheesey as hell, but it helps. I also started doing my homework in places where homework would be the most fun thing to do (aka family events). I broke assignments down into chunks I do between classes, work shift, whatever. Plus, after failing a lot of assignments, I got my act together quick because education is VERY important.

set your goals , list your priorities and after you attain each one give yourself a reward.. .. but not until you complete it. and if you procrastinate at any point give yourself a punishment( make one up ).. right now get off the PC, do your assignment, do not answer the phone, watch TV etc... only stop to eat or get something to drink and go to the bathroom, and keep reminding yourself as soon as your done you can have your reward ( whatever you determine that to be )you need to focus and force yourself to have self control... resist the temptation!!!!!!!!!!!

Put things in perspective if you can. You don't want to ruin your immediate future which could have longer consequences because of your procratination.
You have an english class assignment, do it. Don't worry about your friends--they'll still be there. Don't take the hit on your grades.

YOU WON'T .....

Unless and UNTIL you experience something in your reality -

(perhaps the loss of someone or something, that is quite meaningful to you) -

which happens as a result of your delay (procrastination).

Unfortunately, many of us need 'stress' energies that come, just prior to meeting a deadline, to help us get clear and organized enuf to accomplish a goal. . .sounds like that is what's happening with you.

Again - this life situation can/may 'correct' itself, with/after loss. Meanwhile, accept this 'flaw' as part of who you are, and allow yourself to be o.k. with it . . .'till death do you part!!!
Losing a good grade may be all that it takes for you to decide to not wait so long in the future --- but, I doubt it. . .

Best wishes to you - imperfect one!
I like you anyway . . . you can spell procrastinating!!!

I want to say, "Think about it overnight and come up with an answer that morning", but that leaves alot of room to your procrastnation habit.

Just don't allow yourself a large amount of free time. Get stuff done early, you'll find more 'free time' later (it's also less stressful).

Make lists of what you need to accomplish. Set realistic goals. As soon as you think of something, take care of it right that minute. As you get things done, cross them off your list.

You'll feel less stressed with a bit more organization. Also, for me having a list encourages me to complete it. Reward yourself for crossing off a certain number of items.

We procrastinators are going to have a meeting sometime in the near future. Maybe you can bring it up then or later...
