Because that is what they have been taught. There is a difference between a christian and a child of god, because if you focus on the Christianity part you can become really tunnel visioned when it comes to anything else. And to most Christians they are concerned about the status of being a christian, rather than what Jesus really wants you to do, which is be nice to your neighbors and everything. And since when did Christianity become a race to beat everyone else? That's the biggest load of hypocrisies Ive ever seen...

As a christian myself, let me answer this unbiasedly.

1. Of course any person who believes any religion is going to think it is the best. Why would you believe or buy into a system of faith that didn't have the strongest appeal to you?

2. Nobody likes to be wrong - especially when it is something as large as a faith based issue. When you tell somebody "hey check out this other religion" the implied message is "My religion is more accurate than yours." (And as I stated earlier, of course everyone is going to believe their religion is the most accurate.) Saying this puts somebody into a defensive mode where they feel the need to defend their believes. After all, who wants to find out their ultimate truth was only an ultimate lie?

On the other hand, its also possible that a christian, or a person of any other faith, for that matter will be so strong in their beliefs that they simply aren't interested because it won't change their mind anway.

I think this is a characteristic that applies to most, if not all religions, as opposed to just Christianity.

I don't think it's "most," maybe some. However, for those who refuse to learn about other religions, it's probably fear that causes that. Fear that by doing so they some way sin, or that they may be "swayed by the devil" or something like that to do something in another religion. Most of all, I think some simply think that any religion besides their own is actually a result of Satan, so therefore, they want nothing to do with it. It's sad, but some people are like that and possibly, they will never open their mind to the possibility that others connect with the Divine in other ways and that that Divine is the same one they believe in, not the Devil.

Most Christians would love to sit and hear, but the screaming gets to be a bit much and we tune out. Talk rationally in a nice tone and I'm sure you would have an attentive listener. It doesn't mean that in the end I will believe what you are telling me, but I will listen as long as you are respectful. It all boils down to common courtesy. As a teacher, I do the same thing with my students....the moment they start yelling at me about how they have been wronged in some way, I tune out and walk away. When they calm down and talk to me in a respectful way, I will sit and hear them out.

Actually, many of us have "heard other ones out" -- including the "religion" of modern secular humanism.

Study the record, and you'll find that when it comes to positive influence around the world ... when it comes to engaging in humanitarian and charitable works to improve the condition ... when it comes to stressing the idea that everyone is a human being worth dignity and respect ... Christianity wins hands down.

Well, by definition, all religious groups have to think they're right, and not consider any others. It's on an individual basis that examination of other relgions occurs.

That's why religion has been the root cause of almost every war in history that was not pure expansionism.

I am a believer in Jesus Christ not in any religion. I have a relationship with Him but not with any organized group. I have yet to see anything from any religion more compelling that the empty tomb of Jesus. If you have something that has some evidence of truth let me know I'll look and see what the Holy Spirit, Who lives within me, has to say about your ideas.

It's called religious ethnocentrism. Mostly everybody thinks their religion is the best and won't even bother to hear other ones out.
Oh, some sensible ones, like me and you believe that all religions have equal validity, that is, your religion is as valid to you as mine is to me.

People need to mind and follow their own spiritual path. My religion for example I know is not for everyone nor do I think mine is "better" than anyone elses choice of religion. I think if more people would be concerned about themselves instead of what their neighbors are doing we would all be better off.We were given the freedom of religion in this country and that should be enough.
I am sure you are wondering what my spiritual path is .............
I am Wiccan.

Cause they're sanctimonious creeps, and so what? Some of my best friends are Christians.

And what are the other ones you're talking about that you want the Christians to listen to? Why should they have to listen to anybody, they got way more holy stuff than anybody else, even more than the Muslims. Plus, they got way more saints than anybody.
