Baptism is not a practice of Judaism.
Did you mean, he was Jewish UNTIL he was baptised? Why would taking a bath change that?
Some have suggested that baptism (in Christianity) originated from Judaism, the ritual bathing to make someone clean after having become unclean, which is caused by an array of things all the way from coming into contact with corpses to having sex (with an emmission of semen). But in Christianity, baptism happens only once. In Judaism, this ritual cleaning is ongoing.
They really aren't the same.

Jesus was Jewish his entire life (still is). the baptism he received was done by John the Baptist before the Christian faith began. The Jewish faith as several rituals for washing or cleansing. The baptism that John practiced was an unofficial extension of that practice. It was in preparation for the coming of the Messiah. John was not the first to baptize within the Jews faith, or the only one doing it. The community that collected what we know today as the Dead Sea Scrolls appears, from its handbook which is amoung the scrolls, to have practiced baptize 100-150 years before John. Yet they were a fully Jewish community.
Jesus, or rather his disciples during his lifetime, also batized people. Again in preparation for what Jesus would do on the cross as the Messiah. It was not until after the resurrection of Jesus, and the rejection of Him by the Jewish rabbis, that baptism came to be viewed as a Christian ritual. Jews no longer practice any type of baptism.
So, the anser to the question is that the baptism Jesus received was a baptism that prepared him to be the Messiah, not the baptism Christians receive as a seal of their salvation. So it did not make him a "Christian" instead of a "Jew".

Jesus is still a Jew honey. He lived at home till he was 30 and his mother thought he was god. She wanted him to be a doctor, that's why he went around healing people. Whats the first public event she takes him to? A Wedding! "Go on, maybe one of the bridesmaids will be nice, maybe the groom has a little sister, just don't spend all that time drinking with your brother and the posse that follows you around all the time. Mingle a little."
I am bad. The way I been busting Mel Gibson and all.
But what was the last Supper?- A passover meal.

Baptism was and still is a Jewish concept from the start. The Christians stole this idea from the Jews.

If Jesus existed at all, he most certainly wasn't a religious Jew, as the things he taught are heretical to Judaism.
If he existed, he was probably more pagan than Jew. Christianity is Egyptian paganism with the names changed with a facade of jewishness bolted onto the side to try to appeal to Hellenistic Jews.

No, Jesus was and still is Jewish. He was born a Jew and is Himself the fulfillment of the Jewish Law.
I'm not sure you can get any more Jewish than that. :)

Jesus was a Jew his whole life. Whatever you want to say was his religion, he was ethnically a Jew all the way.
