If She is really cranky and doesn't want to get up, I would say at least 8:30 or 9:00! My child goes to bed at 8:30 and he gets up at 6:00 and he is just fine! So, tell her to lay down at 8:30, and turn the lights out at 9:00!

My daughter required a lot of sleep at that age. Her bedtime was at 9:00 pm on school nights. Then one day around 6:00 pm she came to me and asked if she could go to bed earlier? I told her she could as long as her homework was done and she has had supper. She went to be at 6:30 that night. From then on she went to be when she felt she was ready and it was always before 8:30 pm!

So... I would say before 8:30 pm. Most 12 year olds aren't mature enough to choose a good bedtime for themselves. But if they seem tired in the evenings, then they should go to bed earlier. If they aren't able to go to bed until 9 or 10 PM, then have them take a short 30-45 minute nap in the afternoon.

Hi,
I would try between 9:00 and 9:30. If she's been staying up late during her vacation time, like most kids are want to do, you should try, a couple of weeks before back to school time, gradually getting her to bed earlier so she gets used to going to bed by 9 or 9:30.

I'd say go to sleep at around 10:00. That's a full eight hours of sleep. Make bedtime 9:30, that way she can fool around and talk on the phone in bed or whatever for half an hour.

A 12 year old needs at least 8 hours of sleep a day, so before 10:00 probably

I'm thirteen and I have to wake up at 5:30. Unlike most people, I settle down at 8:00 and go to bed at 9:00ish. That is eight and a half hours of sleep!

What time does she go to bed now? Most kids that age should be getting 8-9 hours of sleep. Going to bed at 9 pm is a good time, on a school night, and 10 pm on weekends & holidays. All kids need a schedule, no matter how cranky they are. You need to set the schedule for them, because they won't do it themselves. Be firm. You're the parent. If she's getting up at 6 am and is still cranky, she might need to take a short nap after school! I'm sure if she hears about that, Ms. Cranky might just disappear as quickly as she came. I don't know if you've ever watched one of those Supernanny shows, but they are very effective and gives you lots of good parenting tips to keep things running smoothly in your household. Make out a schedule now, and post it in a place where everyone can see it. Go over it and let everyone know that this is the law of the land now and there WILL be consequences for anyone not going by what's on the schedule. In my house, that was scrubbing the bathroom floor with a tooth brush (small bathroom)! Make a reward chart too, with duties listed on it, and stars awarded for each thing completed. This includes going to bed on time, as well as getting herself up on time and getting herself ready for school on time. Make the reward something special, like her special food or a special trip to the mall or park. My schedule worked for the whole family, and it worked really well, once everyone got used to it. It was good for the kids, 'cause they knew what to expect, and looked forward to Family Night on Saturday, when they got to pick out a board game and we all sat around the table eating chips and drinking Kool Aid, having fun. So, starting now, by the time school starts, she just may be used to her new schedule, and you may not have to worry about Ms. Cranky showing up again. At least not until junior high. That's a totally different issue. But keep to the schedule, changing it where it needs changing, but standing firm on what's written down. <*)))><
