I am making my own invitations for our wedding and am using pocketfolds where part of the pocketfold flaps over the front of the invite. I would like to use wax to seal them shut, but am wondering how I should go about doing that. Once the wax isopened up, will it stick again? Should I use two envelopes so the wax doesn't get ruined in the mail?

I think there is some faux wax or something that is guarenteed not to break?

Most wedding invitations do come with that inner envelope, and that's probably a good idea for the wax seal. I haven't used this sort of thing in a long time, but the wax gets hard and kind of breaks when you open the envelope, so I would think it couldn't be sealed again. But maybe they make something newer that works better. Have you tried a craft store? They could probably steer you in the right direction on this.

You use wax on the OUTER envelope, not the inner envelope. If you used wax on the inner, there would be a strong possibility that it would get on the invitation itself, and you don't want that. So you definitely use both an inner and outer envelope. Any good craft store should carry the wax and the seal itself, you can even have a custom one done if you have the time, I would first check at the store where you bought the paper and supplies to make the invites, they probably carry the wax as well. If you buy the wax that is designed for envelope sealing, it should hold, but I'd also seal the envelope shut with adhesive anyway, the wax is going to be more of a decorative than functional element.

Wax seals are used only for the OUTER envelope when you mail it. Its been used for centuries and is very durable. You can buy the wax and seals at Michaels. I am sure there is an instruction book. But just in case you are worried they do have faux seals that LOOK as if they were stamped on wax. The stick with an adhesive. Any craft store should carry them.

Michaels sells "wax" sticks that you use with a glue gun and they also have the stamps for the wax http://www.michaels.com/art/online/displayproductlist?categoryid=81486

Good luck!
