It´s mostly an American phenomenon. If you go to England and find someone who was born there but their mom is Asian, they will never say I´m Asian-British, just British.

Like I said in your ancestry Q. Its all about what you have and what you don't. When all you have is something abstract, like heritage, linage, or origin, that's all you have to take pride in.

If you're a hyphenated-american, you can get like, loads of cash and free stuff, and special dispensation and consideration to get jobs you're not qualified for, and then when your employer finally calls 'bullshit' on you for not doing your job, you can sue em for discrimination! LOLOL
