I have tried many times to keep my room in order, but I'm a mess, I'm very disorganised, with everything really
So give me ideas, how can I be more organized? I'm going to need it soon. I need tips on how to keep a routine and have discipline, Ideally I'm looking for tips from people who are a bit neat freaks (like Monica in Friends) what's the motivation on doing that? What makes you actually want to organise everything? And how do you make it easier
Not sure if this goes on Health, but it'd help with well being, at least for me

Dear Anne:

1. Being organized saves you money. How many times have you gone to the store to buy something, and then find another at home a few days later? It also applies to coupons and groceries. Don't forget your bills too.
2. Being organized saves you time. It is much easier to find items in they are in the same spot consistently.
3. Being organized is in the long run....much less stressful. I can find my clothes and get ready for work and pack lunches and get the kids off to school in the morning IF i don't have to hunt for clothes, homework, sandwich fixings......
4. Being organized and neat means you get to have get-togethers without having to rush around for a full household cleaning.

I used to be a real slob....then I married Mr. Clean. I converted quickly. As a result of being organized, I am able to do most of what I want during the day.

Start off by getting a good planner: I use Outlook, but lots of people just use a notebook. This is important: Get to bed on time and wake up at the same time every day. You have now set up how many hours you have to work with. Block out all your obligations: school, homework, job etc. Don't forget to account for travel time.

If you need to clean up regularly: then set aside 30-45 min each day for cleaning, filing etc. it will be much easier to do this every day than for 5 hours once a week.

I hope this helps!

You've already answered your own question, the most important thing is ROUTINE. Your routine should start the moment you open your eyes in the morning, this may sound boring but eventually it will become so automatic that it becomes a habit that is hard to break. Before you leave the house in the morning, make sure anything you have used in the kitchen is washed up and put away, this way you always come home to a clean kitchen. Set a time each day for cleaning a certain part of your house, stick to the routine untill it becomes habit...that is probably the hardest part, you will get the hang of it eventually.
Good luck!

Well I'm not a neat freak, but I keep my room in order. You need to make the decision to keep your room clean, then work on that goal. First, set a day of the week to thoroughly clean your room (mine is Sunday). Then, throughout the week, try to maintain that orderliness. Don't drop things on the floor (especially clothes). When you're done using something (like craft supplies) put them away. If you find you're slipping back into disorder, don't give up. Keep at it. Good luck!

I am not a clean freak- but I used to be. I find that having the floor free of junk instantly makes the room appear bigger and tidier. Put up selves and a bookcase to keep things of the floor also. Ermm, I tend to fridays as my cleaning day, I spend about 4 hours going around my home. then I spend about 30-60 minutes a day just doing general things. I dont look at it as having routine, you should see it as something which is out of place- and you want it to be fixed...
If you are just talking about doing your room then: you should dedicate a few hours once a week to give a thorough clean; dusting ect. and then on a daily basis spend about 15 minutes doing a quick sweep and general clean. goodluck with it.

Being neat and organised brings a sense of calm!! I have been referred to as being a bit of a Monica!! But I think that's a compliment! It makes it easier to find things and looks nicer!! I keep my 60 pairs of shoes neatly boxed and labelled!! Store my hundreds of CDs in alphabetical order!! Yes I may sound sad, but I like to be organised!!

Try flylady.net. It's a (free) system for people in CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome). Flylady talks about routines - having a system for cleaning that you do every morning and evening. She also has flyzones where each week you have a zone of your house that you work on decluttering. You are supposed to spend 15 minutes of each day in the week decluttering in the designated zone. As for motivation, she sends e-mails with testimonials that are very inspiring (as far as making you want to clean). You can adapt her ideas to help you in your specific situation. Hope this helps you as much as it has me.

If you are neat and tidy, you know where everything is (a place for everything and everything in its place) so that when you are in a rush you are able to find that certain something immediately without turning your place upside down/inside out hunting for it.

the above answers are all good, what i want to say is, organised is part of your personal trait, learn to use it or lose it. motivation is the most important factor, if u r ambitious, u have to be organised. organised is prepared, ready to go. think about your life and the people around you, if u r responsible person, you will learn to be one of organised person. good luck.
